Egyptian table grapes: varieties and season

Egyptian table grapes ship from May to August. Because the season starts early, Egyptian grapes reach markets ahead of many other origins. Loka International supplies white, red and black grapes, in several varieties within each colour.

Which Egyptian grape varieties do we supply?

White grapes

Prime and Early Sweet are early seedless white varieties, so they open the season. Superior (also sold as Sugraone) is a seedless white grape with large, crisp, elongated berries, and is one of the best-known white grapes in international trade.

Red grapes

• Flame: seedless, with small to medium round berries and a sweet taste.
• Crimson: seedless and late, with firm, crunchy berries.
• Red Globe: has seeds and very large round berries. It travels well and is popular in markets where berry size matters more than seedlessness.

Black grapes

Black Magic is an early black table grape with large berries and a deep colour.

Which grape variety should you choose?

• Seedless for retail: Prime, Early Sweet, Superior, Flame, Crimson.
• Large berries and long transit: Red Globe.
• A colour mix for display: combine white, red and black in one programme.

How are Egyptian grapes packed?

Grapes are packed in carton or plastic crates from 500 g punnets up to 10 kg. Punnet size, bags, carton print and labels are agreed per order.
