What is IQF? Quick-frozen produce explained

IQF means each piece is frozen separately so it never clumps into a block. Here is how it works, why buyers choose it, and how Loka International supplies it from Egypt.

IQF stands for Individually Quick Frozen. Each piece of fruit or vegetable is frozen on its own, so the pieces stay loose in the bag instead of freezing into one solid block. You pour out the quantity you need, and the rest stays frozen.

How is IQF different from block freezing?

Block frozen Pieces freeze together. The whole block must be thawed or broken up to use any of it.
IQF Pieces freeze separately and stay loose. Portions can be taken without thawing the pack.

Why do buyers choose IQF?

  • Portion control. Take exactly what a batch needs, with no waste from thawing a block.
  • Consistent pieces. Cubes, slices, strips and whole pieces keep their shape for the end product.
  • Flexible packing. Packs are prepared to the buyer’s specification.

How should IQF produce be stored?

Our IQF products are held at −18 °C. Keep the cold chain unbroken from our store to yours: a pack that has thawed and been refrozen is not the same product.
